About Us
The Element products are created with quality in mind, and we are dedicated to crafting products that are both simple and effective.
Hi! I'm Cristi Gee, the owner & product maker. The company was created by chance out of necessity. But before we get into that, a little introduction...
I am a semi-retired hairstylist with over 25 years’ experience in the beauty industry (1996), I briefly taught at a few barber colleges from 1998 - 2002, I'm a Community Centered Herbalist, and I'm passionately curious. I love science and math and learning, which fuels the motivation many nights. The journey into manufacturing began in 2009 when a new client brought in a shea butter product for me to use on her locs. I loved the product and ordered it from the salon that created it in New Jersey. The salon did not offer it on their website for shipping (TOTALLY understand why now), so it got to be quite the production getting it here to Texas. Eventually, I linked up with a good friend who was already making a similar product, and the rest is history!
I have struggled with scalp issues since I was a child. I did not know it then, but I have a condition known as seborrheic dermatitis (not making any medical claims for the products, just telling my story). Due to a variety of allergies, my skin flares up randomly. Eventually, I figured out that it was a combination of natural and chemical things aggravating my scalp. Once I started making products, I decided to try to make things that wouldn't irritate my scalp by focusing on unscented or naturally scented products. Over time, there was a dramatic improvement in the condition of my scalp. My hair clients started asking questions about the products and wanted to buy them. So, in 2011, the company was officially registered.
Starting in 2018, the company shifted focus and entered the wholesale/bulk order side, making custom products for other small businesses. In late 2018, i was diagnosed & began treatment for breast cancer. The business was put on hold until i was physically and mentally capable again in 2021.
It has been a rollercoaster ride of a journey with the business, but I am grateful for everyone who has been with us along the way. As a former beauty industry educator, my focus is on the science of proper hair and skin care. As a Community Centered Herbalist, my focus is on whole-person care through the use of well-balanced aromatherapy blends in the products. We do offer products with traditional fragrance oils, but our first love will always be unscented/naturally scented products.
Our Commitment to Quality:
At The Element, quality is our cornerstone. We meticulously formulate and test each product to uphold the highest standards of excellence. We take pride in supporting local businesses as often as we can for our raw materials and packaging, which helps keep our costs low. The products are made and tested by me, on my own hyper-sensitive skin, which also means that our creations are free from sulfates, parabens, silicones, and other unnecessarily harsh ingredients. Our commitment to quality means you can trust every product bearing our name to deliver unparalleled results without compromising on safety or efficacy.
